Over the course of this project, we have been able to accomplish many things as a group for the Hope House in Greenfield. We were able to sort through clothes in the thrift store that are sold to provide for residents at the homeless shelter, we were able to stain a fence around a playground for the children with the help of our classmates, we collected donations for the Hope House’s needs from the student body as well as from the First Grade level at Sugar Creek Elementary, we collected over $600 to adopt a family for Christmas with an additional $200 worth of donations from families in the community, and most of all we grew throughout this project. I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have been able to meet so many people, learn to get past problems, and learn about an organization so close in my community. This project taught me how to be adaptable as well as realizing how grateful I am for everything that I have.
On Wednesday, December 15th, our whole class went shopping for the family that we had adopted to buy Christmas for. Over $500 worth of toys and necessary clothing items were purchased for two little girls as well as over $150 worth of gift cards for the families’ use. We all wrapped the gifts and are surprising the family with all of the gifts on December 17th. I want to thank my mom for organizing events to help with this at SCE and the families that contributed, as well as all of my classmates that pitched in to make the project doable, and a huge thank you to Mr. Large for his constant support and guidance throughout the entire process.
