Over the past few weeks we have been able to go to the Hope House once a week to volunteer. We have worked with the staff there to develop projects that would be beneficial to the Homeless Shelter. In the meantime, while we have been organizing larger projects to pursue, we have been helping out in the thrift store in other ways. Every Tuesday, pallets of products that were not sold at retailers such as Target, come in to the Thrift Store. We sort through the pallets and organize products that will eventually be sold in the thrift store which helps provide funding for the residents that live in the Homeless Shelter. We also sort through donations and through bins of clothing that are sold in the thrift store to help provide funds as well. The clothes that are unwanted by the Hope House are then taken to Missions 27 downtown and sent to third world countries or scrapped to make new clothing. It has been really neat to work so closely and do projects that we know are directly benefiting the residents of the Hope House. For our next project there, we are working on buying paint in order to re-do the fence surrounding the playground for the children who are currently at the Hope House.
